About My Joint Yoga

My Joint Yoga has been developed and designed by researchers in the Centre for Health, Exercise & Sports Medicine (CHESM) at the University of Melbourne together with yoga therapists, physiotherapists and people with osteoarthritis.

It has been designed for people over 45 years of age suffering persistent knee or hip pain which is commonly caused by osteoarthritis. The website’s purpose is to provide evidence-based information about osteoarthritis and its management and to deliver a 3-month yoga program to help people manage their painful knee or hip condition.

My Joint Yoga was tested in a clinical research trial led by Professors Kim Bennell and Rana Hinman.

Design support has been provided by Alex G Web Design.

Centre for Health, Exercise & Sports Medicine (CHESM)
The Centre for Health, Exercise and Sports Medicine (CHESM) was established in October 2000. It is a multidisciplinary Centre within the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences administered through the Department of Physiotherapy. CHESM combines high calibre researchers with experienced clinicians from a range of disciplines including physiotherapy, medicine, science, exercise science and podiatry. We also work closely with internationally recognised clinical associates and research collaborators.

CHESM’s focus
Our main research focus is on the role of conservative strategies, particularly exercise, in promoting overall health and wellbeing. A particular focus is the prevention and management of osteoarthritis.
